Hi Nena:
Thank you for this timely information and question regarding IL and the Framework updates. What ideas do you have for statewide discussions? Is there an interest in developing an IL UALC interest-group? How can the ULA Instruction group expand discussion in this area? We are definitely all experiencing some rapidly changing needs on our campuses. I am open to continuing the conversation.

Hi Carol,
I'm glad you're interested! One thing I'm intrigued by is the idea of having a statewide conversation about common program outcomes/learning goals for information literacy in higher education.
I attended a very interesting presentation at the UALC professional development retreat where Dory Rosenberg & Shawn Hall talked about the development of learning outcomes at Utah State. Their outcomes are similar to ones that we have at EHSL, and at the U more broadly. Maybe some sort of statewide outcomes/objectives/purpose statement would be helpful to us? I could see this being valuable to help us see the "bigger picture" of where our students are at and where they are going. There could be additional benefits for things like advocacy, orienting new (or new to instruction) librarians, and the joy of community with people who like doing the same things.
I know LIRT is having monthly conversations around instruction, and that could be another venue to discuss what any changes to information literacy mean to us here. These conversations are already a great moment for discussion and community!

Hi Nena,
I would LOVE to participate in a conversation about each institution's learning outcomes and how they do (or don't!) correlate with the Framework. It sounds like it would also be a great opportunity to talk about how we assess our learning outcomes, as well!

I'm glad you're interested! One thing I'm intrigued by is the idea of having a statewide conversation about common program outcomes/learning goals for information literacy in higher education.
I attended a very interesting presentation at the UALC professional development retreat where Dory Rosenberg & Shawn Hall talked about the development of learning outcomes at Utah State. Their outcomes are similar to ones that we have at EHSL, and at the U more broadly. Maybe some sort of statewide outcomes/objectives/purpose statement would be helpful to us? I could see this being valuable to help us see the "bigger picture" of where our students are at and where they are going. There could be additional benefits for things like advocacy, orienting new (or new to instruction) librarians, and the joy of community with people who like doing the same things.
I know LIRT is having monthly conversations around instruction, and that could be another venue to discuss what any changes to information literacy mean to us here. These conversations are already a great moment for discussion and community!

Thank you for this timely information and question regarding IL and the Framework updates. What ideas do you have for statewide discussions? Is there an interest in developing an IL UALC interest-group? How can the ULA Instruction group expand discussion in this area? We are definitely all experiencing some rapidly changing needs on our campuses. I am open to continuing the conversation.
