Hello!
This is our inaugural email from our new consortium listserv! I will try to
keep these brief. I will generally include two different sections: 1)
Things you should know about and 2) Things we need your input on.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT:

  • Phone number and email is no longer required in patron records. The
different libraries in our consortium have different policies and processes
so we have to be as flexible as possible. Please make sure your staff is
trained to complete all the fields that you require locally since the
system may not give them an error message if they forget something.
  • *Patrons guarantor/guarantee relationship. *If you use the
Guarantee/Garantor section in the patron records, you can connect the
accounts of parents/children or teachers/students. This is super helpful
because then the Guarantor (parent/teacher) can see all the items and books
that are checked out by their Guareantees (child/student) when they are
logged into their patron accounts.  You can also see everything from the
staff side. The screen shot below is from a Guarantor (parent/adult)
account. The first tab will show their checkouts, the second shows those of
their Guarantees (children/students). So when a parent asks "What do my
kids have checked out?" You will be able to show them from a single screen.

  • Aspen Weekly Newsletter and Monday Minutes Videos: Are you signed up
to receive these? They each come once a week, only take a few minutes to
look through and have nuggets of information you will find super helpful as
you are learning Aspen and Koha. Subscribe to these resources by
    going to Bywater's
website https://bywatersolutions.com/, scrolling to the bottom, and
    entering your email address.

*THINGS WE NEED YOUR INPUT ON: *

  • Dollar amount at which patron accounts are blocked. This is a system
setting so it has to be the same for everyone. At what point to you want
patrons to be blocked from checking out physical items and accessing Libby
because their fines or lost book charges are too high? What about if a
parent is linked to a child's account that has fees? At what point should a
parent account be blocked if the children accounts have fees? Please
    complete this brief web form
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe7hkrsIOxyEDBK3hlv4QOe8c4VRwn779T7hWIypc1UVZM7lA/viewform?usp=publish-editor
to let us know what your preference is *(Directors only, please.) *For
the second and third setting below, remember that "Guarantor" is "Parent"
    and "Guarantee" is "Child"[image: image.png]

Thank you!!!

That means that when you search in Koha and you only want to see what is in your catalog or lending group, you can click on the "Show Local Items Only" button in your search results and it will eliminate everything but your items. The setting stays at your preference until you click it again.
