Metadata Monday

The Utah State Library Division is excited to announce our next Metadata
Monday with distinguished speaker Maren Mayer.

Join us for a brief and insightful conversation about championing technical
services roles.

February 2, 2026 at Noon

Behind the Scenes, Front of Mind: Crafting Your Technical Services Elevator
Speech

with Maren Mayer, E-Resources & Special Collections Cataloging Specialist

Library technical services are the invisible backbone of every library, yet
their value is often overlooked or misunderstood. In this interactive
workshop, participants will explore creative ways to advocate for the
essential work happening behind the scenes, cataloging, acquisitions,
metadata, and more. Using real-world examples and resources from the ALA
Core community, attendees will collaborate to develop compelling "elevator
speeches" that communicate the impact of technical services in clear,
engaging language. Walk away with a personalized advocacy message and the
confidence to speak up for your work whether it’s to colleagues,
administrators, or the public. Let’s bring technical services into the
spotlight!
