Hello Academic Librarians,

I’m testing the new list-serv and reaching out to share a new exhibition and upcoming symposium at the University of Utah that may be of interest to your campus communities.

Designing Deserethttps://attheu.utah.edu/arts-humanities/designing-deseret-phonetics-and-faith-in-the-american-west/ is a newly installed exhibition at the J. Willard Marriott Library exploring the nineteenth-century Deseret Alphabet—an ambitious effort to redesign written language in early Utah. The project brings together rare archival materials and contemporary scholarship to examine questions of language, design, religion, media, and cultural experimentation in the American West.

Alongside the exhibition, we are hosting a one-day Designing Deseret Symposium featuring an exciting slate of scholars, designers, and experiential sessions that we hope will resonate with faculty, students, and staff throughout the state.

More information about the exhibition and symposium can be found here:
https://exhibits.lib.utah.edu/s/designing-deseret/page/home

We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this announcement with your faculty, staff, and students—particularly those in history, design, humanities, religious studies, media studies, linguistics, and related fields. I have attached a flyer that includes a QR code linking directly to the Designing Deseret website, where visitors can find symposium details (date, time, registration, and transportation information) and explore the digital exhibition for additional context.

While general community registration for the symposium is $50.00, students from partner institutions are encouraged to apply for available scholarships.

I would be happy to provide additional materials or coordinate class visits, group attendance, or further collaboration opportunities. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and thank you for helping us extend this invitation to your campus communities.

All best,

Lyuba
